- Lardman enters IM France... one more...
- Lardman completes King of the Bays 2.8km Ocean Swim with his 11 year old son George in 1hr 14min 40 secs. It was his first ocean swim and what an introduction it was. An easterly blew threw with swimmers battling crashing waves the entire distance. George was inspired to swim the event after watching his Dad compete in many events and it was an emotional time when both father and son crossed the line together.
- Lardman completes the hardest race so far in 15hrs 34mins 25sec at the Ironman World Championships. Broken down as follows:-
3.8km Swim - 1:25:53
T1: 3:22
180km Bike - 7:11:40
T2: 4:33
42.2km Run - 6:48:57
Total Time 15:34:25
- "Lardman" is going to compete in the World Championships AGAIN!!!

Ford Ironman World Championship - Kona, Hawaii - 11th October 2008
The ironman lottery system has proven to work once again for "Lardman". Lucky! Well some would say not. It does mean however that the Bike must now be un-packed from it's bike bag and training must once again commence as Lardman comes out of retirement one more time.
- Lardman completed the hottest Ironman on the circuit dubbed the "The Toughest Show on Earth” in 14hrs 15mins 01sec. Broken down as follows:-
3.8km Swim - 1:23:39
T1: 2:53
180km Bike - 6:29:16
T2: 3:59
42.2km Run - 6:15:14
Total Time 14:15:01
- Lardman prepares for Ironman Malaysia. On another note the Ironman Kona Hawaii DVD is now on sale and it includes some truly inspirational footage that is enough to put a lump in any grown man's throat. Lardman would also like to pay tribute to Rutger Beke, one of the professionals who did a 58:10 Swim, followed by a 4:36:29 Bike, then walked the marathon in 5:34:42. Most professionals stop when they know they cannot get a good time (excluding of course those that are injured/sick) as they don't want their fans to see them suffering. This guy out of respect to all the other age groupers walked the marathon just to finish the event, what a man!
- Lardman enters his first Off-Road event (The Cape Brett Challenge). This 35km run is from Rawhiti via Whangamumu & Te Toroa Bay to Cape Brett and back to Rawhiti. Although all on formed track, this run represents a significant challenge, with over 1700 vertical metres of climbing, some of it steep. Asics have supported Lardman once again and provided him with a pair of Asics 2130 Trail shoe to assist with preparation for this event and of course running in the event
- Lardman completes Ironman WA in 12hrs 33mins 53secs. Broken down as follows:-
3.8km Swim - 1:17:30 (personal best)
180km Bike - 5:46:13 (personal best)
42.2km Run - 5:29:58 (injury kicked in after 6km, so plenty of walking!)
They have not provided transition times, I made my bike 5:40, so times a little out, as the above times total 12:32:41!!!
- Lardman all fit (well sort of - still very sore from Hawaii and carrying bit of a hip injury) and ready for Western Australia Ironman.
Well it's been 2 years since Lardman's mid-life crisis started, as he turned 42 in November 2007. The support of friends and family continues. One very good friend found this birthday card earlier this year and had to wait months to hand it over with a big smile.
- Lardman completed the Kona, Hawaii Ironman (World Championships) in in 13hrs 37mins and 16secs. Check his Kona Race Review which is yet to be fully updated with pictures etc.
- Lardman arrives in Hawaii in preparation for the Ironman World Championships - Check out his Kona Diary.
- Lardman completed "The Legend Arthur Lydiard - 35km Run" in 2:53:22, which was over 8 minutes better than his previous attempt. The route of "The Legend" is a now famous training run route that many elite and not-so-elite athletes have done, and still do, as part of their training regimes and schedules. The 35 km Waiatarua run through the Waitakere Ranges is as punishing a course as you can do, and has been 'fondly' referred to as the "run until you spew".
"Lardman" is going to compete in the World Championships!

Ford Ironman World Championship - Kona, Hawaii - 13th October 2007
Thanks to the vision of Ironman founder John Collins, who insisted that a system be maintained to allow the "common man" a chance to compete in this great race, 200 far-from-common age-groupers will join the rest of the 1,800 strong in Kailua Bay on October 13, 2007 for the Ford Ironman World Championship. "Lardman" paid NZ$131.54 for his lottery ticket into the greatest event in the world and was one of the lucky 50 international athletes drawn out of the hat.
- "Lardman" completed the "The Auckland 100k Cycle Challenge" in 3hrs 20mins, which meant an average pace of 30kmph. Having never participated in a cycle race before it was fun, fast on the straights and hard up the many hills. Great fun, will be doing that one again next year!
