lardman this guy

Could this 42 year old 106.4kg (234.1 lbs) lardman (weight on 1st Feb 2006) complete the Taupo 2007 Ironman on March 3rd 2007? - YES!!

The challenge however is to beat Gordon Haller's winning time of 11 hours, 46 minutes and 58 seconds, recorded in Hawaii in 1978 - the first ever ironman event.

After attempts of 12 hours, 33 minutes and 33 seconds (Taupo) and 13 hours, 37 minutes and 16 seconds at the "World Championships" and then 12 hours 33 minutes and 53 seconds (Busselton) and subsequently 14 hours 15 minutes and 1 second (Langkawi, Malaysia) there is still a bit of work to be done before this challenge is completed, but the last attempt was at the hottest Ironman event on the circuit, so must find an easier race!  The latest attempt at the "World Championships" in a dissapointing 15 hours 34 minutes and 25 seconds has made the challenge even harder.

  • Success comes in cans not cant’s.
  • Life is a journey, not a destination.
  • Remember that failure is an event, not a person.

If you would like to offer your support, however small please contact lardman.
The book "Lardman to Ironman" will hopefully be published soon describing the journey of this lardman, with all proceeds being donated to the Allison Roe Trust, a women’s health trust with a goal to make a difference to the health of NZ women and their families, will include all that was required from a dietary, nutrician and training perspective and the associated costs, so others can take inspiration and do the same. Remember; having one fit person in the family has a knock on effect to other family members! Hopefully there will be a bit of humour thrown in too.

YES.. "Lardman" competed in the "World Championships" for a second time - how lucky is that? Click Here for more information.

Lardman" is a TWO time Kona Finisher - How many people can say that?

Thanks to the vision of Ironman founder John Collins, who insisted that a system be maintained to allow the "common man" a chance to compete in this great race, 200 far-from-common age-groupers will join the rest of the 1,800 strong in Kailua Bay on October 11, 2008 for the Ford Ironman World Championship.  "Lardman" will be joining 49 other lucky international athletes in the greatest event in the world.  How lucky is it to be going their twice?  Click Here for more information.  Also Click Here to read an interesting article on the lottery.  In 2007, a record 6,579 athletes entered the Ironman lottery, which awards 150 slots to U.S. citizens, 50 slots to international athletes and five slots to physically challenged athletes, I have in good authority that there where 7210 entrants to the 2008 Ironman Lottery, of which 1,616 were International entries.
