Could this 42 year old 106.4kg (234.1 lbs) lardman (weight on 1st Feb 2006) complete the Taupo 2007 Ironman on March 3rd 2007? - YES!!
The challenge however is to beat Gordon Haller's winning time of 11 hours, 46 minutes and 58 seconds, recorded in Hawaii in 1978 - the first ever ironman event.
After attempts of 12 hours, 33 minutes and 33 seconds (Taupo) and 13 hours, 37 minutes and 16 seconds at the "World Championships" and then 12 hours 33 minutes and 53 seconds (Busselton) and subsequently 14 hours 15 minutes and 1 second (Langkawi, Malaysia) there is still a bit of work to be done before this challenge is completed, but the last attempt was at the hottest Ironman event on the circuit, so must find an easier race! The latest attempt at the "World Championships" in a dissapointing 15 hours 34 minutes and 25 seconds has made the challenge even harder.
- Success comes in cans not cant’s.
- Life is a journey, not a destination.
- Remember that failure is an event, not a person.
